Identification:

-Simple leaf, 4 – 10 inches wide, similar appearance to maples
-Round fruit appx. 1 inch in diameter, breaks up and disperses seed
-Bark forms irregular patches exposing white underbark

Note:   A fast growing native tree found growing along streams and rivers throughout the Eastern United States.  Although the white trunk and branches are showy in winter, leaf and fruit litter make this species a maintenance concern in the landscape.
